A Critic's State of Mind

So as you know im on my "summer reading" grind and i have stumbled upon this great book. Its called Harlem Girl Lost. Its great, fantabulous, wonderful, magnificant, all around pretty good read. It has action, drama, happy, sad, disgusting, and shocking moments all rolled in to one. I highly, strongly, outrageously recommend it because I think its an interesting book and alot of people would enjoy it and begin to open their eyes to reading more urban books. So let me give you a lil tibit of the what its about: So there is this chic named Silver right and she goes through this crazy ass life. Her moms is a prostitute/heroin addict/torn past who keeps it real with her daughter all the way. Silver goes threw losing her mother, losing her bestfriend, and basically almost everyone she cares about except for the love of her life, Chance. Read, tell me what you think, let me know who you think would play a great Silver if it was made into a movie? My vote is Kerry Washington (you kno from the Ray Charles movie).
Keep it intelligent...holla!

Summer Reading

So time to spread a lil knowledge...so I love reading 'urban' aka hood ghetto whatever you wanna call it type books. There so interesting and are like lil movies in writing. So for this blog, I will share with you some of the books that are definately up there on my "great urban books" list. Read them, you just might like it.

Whoreson by Donald Goines-Great GREAT book, its all about a stuggle of a young man as he learns the art of pimpin. Its deep and is full of crazy drama. This is a great beginner book.

Dopefiend by Donald Goines-Also another great book. Its all about DRUGS!! Its crazy graphic like you feel like u up in the crackhouse lookin at these people that he is describing. If you want something ridiculously graphic that you will read and then say what the hell and read it again, this is the book.

Mama Black Widow by Donald Goines-Saddest book ever...boarderline depressing yet such a good read; i recommend it

Black Girl Lost by Donald Goines- Best ghetto love story ever EVER and not no sappy make u sick love story, its real and its dramatic and its great...please read this. After this book is when I read like everything Donald Goines has written, its great..sad but so great.

White Man's Justice, Black Man's Grief-I really wasnt tryin to read this book at first but I reallly need a new book in my life so I decided to start reading..it was on point. Its all about the trials and tribulations of this guy in the jail system (wow that sounded boring lol) but trust after reading it, you definately will have interesting convos with ya peoples fah real. Good book.

A Project Chic by Nikki Turner-being a single momma with a deadbeat psycho boyfriend in the drug game living in the projects is no joke and you will find out why reading this book; its nice, its simple, and its a good read

The art of Mackin by Tariq Nasheed-Pretty good, i mean its writen for guys but as a woman reading it, it was like ok ok i see the game he was tryin to run on me the other day with that one lol fun read

Play or be played: what every woman should know about men, dating and relationships by Tariq Nasheed-very informative for us ladies; some stuff I personally see more as BS then truth but hey u never know

Pimp: the Story of my life by Iceberg slim-This is like a really great book..no joke. Even if you aint feelin pimp stories, this one is definately sure to gain ya interests. Its wat started my whole love of reading..thanxs racey ;)

G-spot: An urban erotic tale by Noire-Now i know i know you read this title and you think, this is gonna be one of those sex crazed freak nasty book but NO people it was really a good book with a real plot and drama too. It really had nothing to do with the G-spot at all come to think about it lol it was just that the main character's boyfriend named "G" had his club, henceforth named the G spot and thats where most of the drama went down.

Addicted: A novel by Zane-yes Zane does all those super descriptive sex books but this one actually had a solid plot to it. It was about this chic that well of course had a sex addiction and it was making her whole life fall to peices but its deeper than that and the only way to find out how/why/ and what happened is to read it. ;)

Bad Girlz by Shannon Holmes-Really good book; all about these three chics which are strippers and how one finally gets out of the game, ones tragic end, and how the last dies. Makes you say damn life is really hard for some folks, why am i complaining about lil things that arent that deep?

Girls from Da Hood by Chunichi-Its a combination of three short stories. They were good; i cant recall exactly what each one was about but it was a good read if u like short stories.

So yup, im sure im forgetting some but these are a few of the most memorable ones so far. If you got any good titles let me know, Im always looking for my next good read. Right now Im working on the glamarous life by Nikki Turner. Its turning out pretty good so far. Check them out and give me ya comments/options. Peace
